When I was taking graphic design classes we were learning a lot about design history, and I fell in love with design more. I do love a lot of art movements and what they did for modern design, but my absolute favorite is De Stijl design. There is something about the simplicity of it that just draws me in. De Stijl is simplistic and a part of Neoplasticism, a Dutch art movement that started in 1917.

My favorite piece is "NON-OBJECTIVE I" by Roy Lichtenstein. I find that his piece is well balanced and makes the eye dance. It is such a nice and simplistic way to balance a canvas. The placement of the colors, the line thicknesses and the full tone allow for the eye to dance from focal point to focal point.

"NON-OBJECTIVE I" by Roy Lichtenstein is one of the only De Stijl pieces I have had the pleasure of seeing in person. I was able to see it The Broad museum in December of 2019, and it was the last time I got to go to a museum and see art since. I would like to be able to see more of Roy Lichtenstein's work in person, and more of the Neoplasticism movement work in the future.
